Nesting: My Grandmothers Chest

I just refinished a chest that I received recently.
It used to be my great grandmothers, then my grandmother,
then my mom passed it on to me!
The front is curved as are the drawers and cabinet door
but you don't get a feel for the curvature in the photos.

Unfortunately I realized I didn't snap a shot of it before, so you can only see the after, but I will tell you it was a peachy pink with casters on the bottom and very beat up. Spills and stains, the wood underneath was really pretty, a tiger-y oak and with the bits of white paint still showing up after stripping it I was tempted to leave it as it was, ( McCall wanted it left) but I was thinking about using it for a girls room so I wanted to make it "girl-y", strangely.

Stella wanted it pink again which would be super cute but I decided to go with a more neutral color. White goes with everything so I slapped on some Chalk Paint (I added color on the inside so when you open the drawer you'll get a pop of color) and then got out the sanding sponge and a putty knife.

Often I don't distress enough but I decided to go with a heavier hand, make it sort of a white-washed beach-y looking.

What do you honestly think?
I need to decide before the wax goes on cause I don't want to do that twice.
Is it too distressed?
I can throw another coat on and start anew with my antiquing.
What do you prefer???

Nesting

I've been getting ready for my new nest...

Found this sweet little table at an antique store.

Cute lines and perfect between two twin beds, but the finish wasn't going to cut it for me...

so I tried my hand at Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint.

If you could feel the finish it is so smooth and just like silk. LOVE this pricey paint process. That's 3 P's in a row...nice.

Working on another very old piece and will show pics soon!

Stoner Family Talent Show

We had our family reunion over the summer. But like everything in my life... I am months behind.

The Stoner clan gathered in Park City for a few days. We stayed up in Deer Valley and played games and did relay races, stayed up late talking with a lot of laughing, ate way too much good food, did the Park City Mountain Resort and slid and rode to our hearts content (wish I had a picture of the zip line but my flip was dead), played charades reverse style where one person guesses while the group acts out the item...girls against boys...we wrote up the items ourselves which was a BIG mistake! So when we didn't have a theme like "something you do in the summer" the boys reverted to cheating...the girls pulled out slips of papers with things like quantum mechanics, square pyramidal, theory of constraints.
Ya... the boys are pretty lame!

We worked on humanitarian projects to help lift the lives of those in need.

Got some pictures of the family all together (minus a family darn it).

We had our talent show where these two did a violin duet...

McCall did a solo number.

Then these three munchkins did a fabulous routine to Dancing Queen.

They twirled,

wiggled,

pranced,

and made a good showing for the Peterson Clan.

Erik would not wear a tutu,

so it really was all on the girls shoulders to represent the family.

I know everyone says this, and it's right and as it should be that we all feel this way...
but I have the best, most fun family EVER.

I can't wait for Trader Joe's to come to Utah.

It has been years of wishing and pining and finally it's coming!

Now I won't have to stock up on this when someone travels to California...

Exterior

Our exterior has moved along from this...

 To This...

To Finally This..

Now here I wish I could insert a picture of a home with green grass, trees, shrubs, and landscaping plants and flowers.

Close your eyes and imagine.

Looks nice huh?

But that would mean inserting...

here...

So unless someone wants to drive to Idaho so I can win powerball it will have to wait until next spring.

The end.
