Sunday, right after church we headed up with our picnic to AF Canyon. We found a nice spot by the river up Tibble Fork way and picnic-ed took some photo's and played by the river, then completed the Alpine Loop. Can I just say Sundance area was AMAZING! It was so beautiful. Opportunities like this are so great for our family. That night when it was McCall's turn for family prayer and she talked about how beautiful this earth is and thanked Heavenly Father. Afterward as we talked it was a direct result of what she saw and experienced that afternoon. I'm so glad we did it and so glad that the Spirit represents itself in so many ways to us.

Great Grandma

Most of you probably are like me and have a grandmother who is dear to your heart.

One who has watched you from when you were a baby to the time when you are caring for your own babies.
Who's hands have changed hundreds of diapers, cooked thousands of meals, wiped away countless tears, and cupped your chin as she kisses your cheek. Those hands have been worn soft from years of work and service but are dear and as beautiful as ever.

She loves your children - her great grandchildren - with a special element that only she can add to there lives.

After 97 years she is so vivid and clear in her stories and experiences and we had the fortunate pleasure of visiting with her on Saturday and having her meet Estelle Lucy for the first time(Lucy named after her own dear mother).

So you can see we decided to let these go from McCall's birthday.

We had such a nice evening.... Dinner was nice...simple....pizza per McCall's choice....we had lots of pink on the table and then after dinner had Sundae's and thick fudge brownies. YummY!

McCall got a pink ipod nano that shoots video from Mom & Dad. Perfume from Libby, Watch from Claire and a "M" necklace from Estelle. She also got itunes cards, gift cards, ihome stereo and docking station from Grandparents. She loved it all and had such a great day!

9 years

I cannot believe it's been 9 years -- It has gone by so fast. McCall has continued to inspire, bless and shine in our home. We love her lots.

Household Items

You'll want to click on this to really read it, I didn't have time to figure out how to bring in my excel spreadsheet so it was print out and scan, then upload the photo! Lame I know!

Since conference last October, Erik and I have been wondering about our year supply. So at the beginning of this year we started tracking what we use. We listed common items on a list and then wrote the open date in the first column and when it was used up in the second column. We were then able to see what we needed... we were pretty close in our years supply but somethings were a little under and a couple things I had been storing way too much of. I thought I'd make my list available in case it might help any of you.

This said, let me just say that this is based on our families needs and uses (family of 5 - now 6). Some people may wash clothes more often, or less (I'm a fanatic about washing sheets once a week). And you would need to gear some items for what you use (we use JUMBO rolls of Charmin so you'd need to adjust your amount if you use a normal size roll).

Also, I store one more than what I need, so if I need 8 jugs of laundry soap I have 9 so that when I finish #9, I purchase a new one and thus always have 8 always in storage... or if I need 2 packages of Dove soap for the year, I have a third that is open and in use. Again when I get close to using that package I purchase a new one so I always have two unopened packages for our years supply.

Comprehend??? You could get quite O.C. about it but the idea is to just do your best to store approximately a years surplus.

Our church lists a lot of what to store per person for a year (like water, flour, sugar, salt, etc.), so we are relying on those figures for now, and a lot of the food storage changes from week to week based on what we are using for the meal, we have tracked some of our basics, like peanut butter, pancake mix, etc. and I'll be listing those amounts in the future.

For now this is what we use... it's pretty complete on the basic household & personal items we want to have. I always keep one extra case of diapers and wipes on top of one that's being used.

I haven't listed medicines, band aids, q-tips etc. cause it's too hard... I just store way more than I should because I'd rather be safe than sorry... right now I have 5 plus 1 opened bottles of children's Tylenol... More than I probably need but I never want to run out and make my kids suffer through a fever or something. I usually don't have this much but it's the beginning of flu season so I always stock up so by the end of the season I still have a years supply... and hey who wants to go the the store sick and contaminate everyone else to pick up medication. Oh and you have to stock up on Sudafed (behind the counter kind) 2pkgs over a distance of time or they will think you are making drugs or something!!!

Hope this might be helpful to some of you... we just totally revamped out 72hr kits too so I'll post about that soon too.

Oh and just to get this out in the air before I get the question ... YES my food storage room is VERY full.

SLR

I just went to Best Buy to purchase season 5 of The Office (which they were sold out of btw) and I ended up wandering over to their SLR camera's and I've wanted one for so long... and when I called Erik (to tell him they were out of the Office and as I explained about the Office being sold out and how I should have purchased it at Costco yesterday but Erik had seen an add for it at Best Buy... yada yada yada) So, as I'm explaining this, Erik came back with a "Honey, I'm busy--I don't care what you buy"... and right at that moment I was just standing there looking at that cute Canon... so I just figured I'd purchase it because Erik sort of gave me the okay with the "don't care what you buy".... RIGHT?!!
Anyhooo..... I am really excited and I hope I can figure out how to use it. :)

Estelle's almost two months

I cannot believe how fast time has gone. I wish it would slow down! Estelle is just the sweetest, happiest, most adorable thing. The other day I was nuzzling her and I just thought... it's not right to love someone this much!

Wow, I'm sitting in bed... and wandered onto my own blog... and I really can't believe it has been almost two months since I posted. I was thinking about the things that keep me from posting and wondering when it will slow down to have more time for some of these other things like blogging...

Estelle Lucy is here!

After postponing the c-section from Wednesday to Thursday (thanks to catching a stomach flu on Monday) we are so excited to welcome Stella to our family. Everything went well other than a little longer to cut through some really tough scar tissue.

She is such a doll, we love her and Mom got to spend lots of good one-on-one time in the hospital with Stella as the girls caught the stomach bug Thursday night, and Friday. Erik stayed home and took care of the girls, briefly running over for and hour here and there on Friday and Saturday to visit while others watched the girls at home.

I was really missing the girls by Saturday night but was glad they were taken well care of at home and I certainly didn't want them at the hospital exposing our baby or anyone else. We brought Stella home today, Sunday, and are just loving cuddling, kissing and adoring every inch of her. Here she is ready to leave the hospital.

July 8th

Only 26 days to go!!

Pretty lame post I know but I am too busy to take a moment to think about what to write other than it's getting so close -- still no real direction on names -- any comments left with your ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

Claire's birthday is soon so I'll update with pictures of that and out St. George trip... I'm just too busy to even plug in my camera to the computer...

Oh and my flowers and garden are overflowing with beauty and growth. This weather is AWESOME... I'm sure some of you would like it warmer but I just love this cool spell and even the rain! We came back from St. George and everything had grown like 6 inches! I am enjoying the first bloom of my rose bushes and the roses are huge (the size of my hand spread open). The first bloom is always the strongest and prettiest and this cool weather is allowing us to enjoy the roses a little longer. Erik set up the most wonderful drip and water system so now I don't have to water so much -- my herbs, veggie garden, lettuce barrels, and roses are all on sprinkler lines now so it's just a couple pots which is so much more manageable. We considered running lines to my pots but I wasn't sure I could live with the look of sprinkler line (no matter how small) running up the side so we've held off.

Erik is so great and so willing to make my life easier -- I'm so lucky! Just the other day he told me to quit trying to do so many projects (NESTING) and just enjoy the summer with the girls. It's advice I needed and I think it's so great that he recognizes that quality time with the girls is the most important thing for the girls and for me and my sanity! What an awesome guy!

Well this ended up being longer that my initial thought to post of my 26 days left... I'm tired and my feet are swelling from wearing too high heels to dinner tonight... my vain attempt to lengthen myself out when I've got a basketball for a belly! Soft bed awaits!

While mother's away the little ones will play...

So last Friday night the girls (McCall & Elizabeth) wanted to sleep in the guest bedroom - soon to be McCall's as soon as we pick out a bedroom set - anyhooo, Erik had gone down to walk on the treadmill about 9pm, with girls in bed, as I headed out the door to deliver a birthday gift and Strawberry Rhubarb Pie to my Dad in Orem.

When Erik got off the treadmill to come upstairs at 10:30pm this note was sitting at the foot of the stairs - and the girls were still awake in the middle of a crisis concerning one head and a sippy cup of water. Needless to say when I got home about 11pm the girls were asleep in their own beds!

Mother's Day

Mother's Day Weekend 2009

My cute little family was so good to me this mother's day!

We headed to Thanksgiving Point and I got another pass for the new year. We ate at the cafe & purchased some of their big cookies for dessert. We then walked the gardens, feeding fish, watching a large goggle eyed frog on a lily pad, ate our cookies in a shady cove. We looked at the hundreds of tulips and a few other flowers like tiny blue/purple forget-me-not's blooming through the gardens.

We then headed up to the Little America in SLC and swam, hung out and just kind of relaxed. No cooking - no making beds.

Just time together.

We have all been suffering from a bad cold/cough, and poor Claire got it Saturday night - but she's a trooper and we all had a good time regardless. Erik so far has kept from getting this horrible gunk (he's the only one that got a flu shot this year - humm).

Probably should avoid the flash in the morning!

On Mother's Day we had Brunch at the Grand America. YUM!

Today, Monday, the girls and I are all taking the day off and relaxing and trying to rest and feel better! I wish I could take some medication (I am on Sudafed and an antibiotic for my sinus infection) but it's all worth it to have a healthy safe baby!

It was a great weekend and we all had fun - especially the kids - which is always the most important part for Erik and I. I felt so special and loved by my cute little family and I can't wait thinking that at the beginning of July we will add our final installment in the PETERSON CLAN. We are so blessed!!

Catch Up -- Easter and Spring Break

For Spring Break we stayed around town - and the girls got to play in the snow! They loved it and had so much fun. It was a huge snow storm (our power was out for a good 5 hours) but as typical Utah weather goes it was melted by the next afternoon!

We always said McCall could choose to get her ears pierced once she was 8, which came and went with out her wanting to do it -- fine by us -- the later the better. But she came to us a couple weeks ago and asked if she could, so over Spring Break we headed out to get it done. This was the second ear and she was smiling so that was a good sign! She has followed the instructions for care PRECISELY, three times a day and hundreds of cotton balls later (one ball in front one behind with the cleaner and fresh set for each ear... that makes 4 per cleaning session, 12 per day for 6 weeks... no wonder my waste basket seems to be full so often!)

I snapped a quick pic of the girls with their Easter eggs as they were dying them... They love it so much I thought maybe we should start dying them for other holidays as well -- why do it just once a year!? Of coarse, we love egg sandwiches and never have a problem eating up hard boiled eggs. (I always am a bit concerned about McCall unzipping her lunch at school to the pungent smell of an egg sandwich!)

It was rainy and kind of cold but we headed out to the "circle" for our annual neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt! I always think we'll head out to one of the big organized egg hunts but you just can't beat the convenience of walking next door! The Bedier's arranged it this year... we really have the nicest neighborhood. It makes a huge difference to have such nice people around and to have such awesome youth for your kids to watch and to grow up with.
