I was thinking about this the other day and thought "everyone should know this" -- but this tip is only for those who wear diapers or change them, so it may not apply to a good number of you...although you may be able to share this wisdom with others who could use it.
When Libby was a baby she had been on an antibiotic and got the worst ever, most horrible, diaper rash... ever. Do you understand that it was bad? It was so red and painful that it was bleeding! A lot! We were trying the butt paste, Desitin, A+D, gold bond powder, warm bath water, whatever might ease her pain. When she was changed she would scream and cry (I would have too) and it was about all we could do to hold her down and get her clean, explaining as best as we could, through our own tears, that we had to get her clean or it would just get worse.
My brother and his lovely family from San Diego were staying with us through this and when they heard us trying to change her they recommended what they had been told by their doctor (a real MD). Now, they are the type who would do anything, give anything to anyone. They don't just talk, they act. So Darin and Jeri got in the car right away and were back shortly with a bottle of Imodium AD, and a few treats and fun toys to spoil the kids with. They are just that way.
We marked the bottle with a sharpie (diaper use only). We take a clean cotton ball and soak it with the Imodium AD and pat it on the rash on the child's bottom. If you need more get a new cotton ball and soak it and repeat. As much as possible allow it to air dry then re-diaper.
The results work incredibly fast.
I told my doctor about this recently and he was so impressed. The science is the same. Imodium AD helps neutralize stomach acid and does the same thing with diaper rash.
I know there are lots of ointments and creams but when it gets really bad we have found this to work wonders!
